Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro ED
While I am not a specialist of macro photography, it seems that I always have had a macro lens for any system that I’ve been using.
From the Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro, the Nikon 60mm f/2.8 Macro and the 105mm f/2.8 VR Macro, through to the Hasselblad HC 12mm f/4 Macro Mark II, I also have a few Carl Zeiss Makro lenses converted to Canon mount.
The benefit of macro lenses is that they don’t only allow you to shoot macro, they also allow you to shoot whatever you want, with a similar focal length and at a closer minimum focus distance. Nw that almost every macro lens is auto focus, the fun is event greater.
When you get close to your subject, al the attention is focused on the point of focus and everything else is thrown out of focus. A macro lens can have very exciting bokeh, even at small apertures.
Since I’ve been using the micro four thirds system, the macro lens was the one that I’ve been missing. I could not have a complete set up without a decent macro lens. So last Saturday, I went out and got one. The Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 600 1:2.8 Macro lens. It’s a mouth full name ..
Here are some images from the lens while playing with a Profoto D1 head and a RIME Lite soft box. The subject is one of my old TAG Heuer watches.
I already like this lens and have just shot a fashion session with it, along with a few other prime lenses.
Set up of the shoot: Profoto D1 head and a RIME Lite 16 ribs soft box.
